We are in the final planning stage for our third book featuring Metal Clay. The working title of this new book is Exceptional Works in Metal Clay & Glass. Our mission is to compose a comprehensive album of creative work by the most preeminent Metal Clay artists working today. Wardell Publications, Inc will produce and publish this book, scheduled for release at the Glass Craft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas in April 2008.
The unique concept for this book is to feature each and every art-piece on its own dedicated page (or possibly on a 2 page spread). To showcase the work using high quality images taken at various view angles that will enable the viewer to make a complete inspection of the piece - as if they were holding and turning the piece in their own hands. We will present a view from the front, the back and the sides, and depending on the complexity of the piece, we may also show the top, the bottom, the inside, etc. - whatever is necessary.
In addition to the images, each page layout will contain an art-object title for the piece, the artists name, city, state, country and website information, a brief commentary in the artist own words with some advice & guidance about the piece - how it could be utilized or displayed, how it could be modified for a different look or use, etc. (max. 150 words) plus a listing of statistics for the piece (size, materials, etc.). We will also include a Concept & Inspiration paragraph in the artist own words (max. 75 words) to give the reader some insight for the inspiration of the piece - basically an explaination of how the artist came up with the idea, that may include a hint as to how the piece was accomplished. Be sure to take a look at the sample page layout on the
Book Preview Pages of this website.
Our selection criterion will include artistic excellence and creative innovation. Pieces must be visually engaging and interesting and be of the highest quality. Pieces must have art glass or glass enamel incorporated in some way. The glass elements may be integrated directly with the metal clay (i.e. fired as an inclusion or bezel set), used as a design element (i.e. glass beads in the necklace, or dangling ornaments), mounted on or with art glass, or any other method to combine these 2 materials. The Exceptional Works team will make the final selections based upon how the piece will enhance and advance the overall theme and balance of the book.
